Discover Oman

If the Grand Mosque represents Oman’s spiritual heart, the Royal Opera House represents its cultural soul. Opened in 2011, this stunning venue has become the premier destination for music and arts in the Middle East. With its gleaming white marble and intricate hand-carved wood, it’s a place where Italianate elegance meets traditional Omani craftsmanship.

Ways to Experience the Opera House

1. The Daily Guided Tour

You don’t need a show ticket to see the magic inside. Guided tours are the best way to see the “Hidden Secrets” of the building, including the massive pipe organ and the world-class acoustics.

  • Hours: Saturday to Thursday, 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM (Closed Fridays).
  • 2026 Prices: * Adults: OMR 3.15 (approx. $8.20)
    • Children: OMR 1.05
    • Note: Combined tickets for both the main building and the House of Musical Arts are OMR 4.2.

2. Catch a Performance

The 2025–2026 season is spectacular. From “Cinderella on Ice” to Arabic Sufi evenings, the calendar is full.

Mention that tickets for shows can range from OMR 5 to OMR 100, making it accessible for both budget and luxury travelers.

3. Lunch Music at Opera Galleria

As a developer, I love a “Value” tip for readers: On select Saturdays (usually at 12:30 PM), you can enjoy free live opera performances in the Opera Galleria shopping mall. It’s a great way to experience world-class talent without a formal ticket.

The “Strict” Dress Code

The Opera House takes its elegance seriously. If you don’t follow the rules, you may be denied entry!

  • For Tours: Smart-casual is fine, but avoid ripped jeans or flip-flops.
  • For Performances (Formal): * Men: Suit or dinner jacket (Omanis must wear traditional Dishdasha and Massar). No jeans, t-shirts, or sneakers.
    • Women: Conservative formal dresses (below the knee) or an abaya. Shoulders must be covered.
